Step 2 of Detoxifying

Keep it simple is my motto!

Healing Herbs
Healing Herbs

First of all, if you feel like a week has not been long enough for you to fully shift your normal diet over to a cleaner, simpler diet; then I would suggest you simply stay with that initial phase for now. Getting your initial, daily diet in order is by far the most critical part. The body will not fully let go of toxins if you are still putting toxic food sources in! Please don’t rush this first part, be sure to take as long as you want to make sure your diet is really clean of all toxic and overwhelming food sources.

The second critical part of making sure your body is well prepared to cleanse, is to make sure it is supported properly. This week while continuing to eat clean and simple, start adding specific supplements that will support your bodies ability to let go and flush toxins. Trust me on this one, I once did a cleanse without making sure my bowels where up for the job, and ended up in severe pain for a couple days before I broke down and did an enema for relief! (more on those later : ) )

Detox supplements include;

1. A high probiotic combination (not dairy!) but a capsule with a minimum of 60 billion!

2. Large doses of B-Complex

3. Anti-oxidants e.g. Vit C (min. 2 g/day), selenium, beta-carotene (Vit A), Vitamin E

4. Plenty of EFA’s.

5. A whole food supplement, like E3Live to replenish the depleted nutrients.

6. A multi functional digestive enzyme to be taken with each meal.

7. A general detox kit like, Heel Detox Kit, Dr. Reckeweg, Wild Rose, Flor-Essence tea, Chinese or Swedish Bitters or make your own with specific herbal tinctures that you feel drawn too.

The final aspect of getting your body detoxing and cleansing is adding the right products that will stimulate your organs to release the deeply held toxins. The best products I have found to do this are specific herbs.

*Remember herbs should not be taken any longer than a month, before giving your body a break as they are stimulants and can over work your system and/or create more problem.

Herbs that are specific to organ cleansing are;

Liver related herbs are – Milk Thistle, Artichoke and Dandelion root.

Kidney related herbs are – Couch Grass, Uva Ursi, Horsetail, Parsley, Nettle and Corn Silk.

Bowels, aside from using a high probiotic for support, if you find you get constipated then try herbs such as Aloe Vera gel, Slippery Elm, Cascara Sagrada or Turkey Rhubarb all will support and stimulate the bowels to release. Just be careful when using these to not over do it! To begin with simply add some magnesium powder to your diet morning and night and this may be all you need to get that extra push. Remember too, that you will be eating a fairly large diet of fresh vegetables, whole grains, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds, all of which will be adding good fiber.

The least honored organ, but the one I think needs the most help is our Spleen! I especially like to make sure I am supporting my spleen during the fall. As it tends to cause me the most problems at this time. If you feel achey and stiff, especially your lower limbs and feet, than spleen deficiency can be your biggest problem. The herbs I prefer to use for spleen are – Codonopsis (immune and blood tonic), Dioscorea (proper metabolizing), Cratageous (especially for digestive weakness like indigestion and nausea) & Astragalus (general energy builder)

The last system that always gets forgotten is our lymphatic system. The easiest way to make sure it is functioning well is to get yourself a good natural dry body brush and brush your skin well (until pink!) prior to showering each day. Bouncing up and down or any gently physical movement actually stimulates our lymphatic system. Another way is to locate the two main acupuncture points for this system and stimulate the spot with your thumb or finger for a couple minutes a few times a day. These points located roughly 4 inches down from your color bone and directly up from your nipples. If you feel around that area you will find an indent that is a bit tender, that’s the spot!

All of these herbs can be taken either in tincture form or dry made in to a tea, choose which form appeals to you most. I prefer the tincture and tea form, as the tincture tends to be stronger in action than the tea. I will take a mixture of the tinctures say 6-12 drops of each in some water morning and evening, as well as steep some herbs to sip throughout the day.

As you implement this new set of protocols, be sure to monitor your elimination. Toxins will mainly be release via the bowels but also through the kidney’s and bladder. If either one becomes slow and/or painful, slow down on the detoxifying herbs and bulk up on healthy fiber foods like vegetables and ground seeds like chia, flax or hemp.

The best cleansing system is gentle yet effective. If you notice you have more aches or feel overwhelmed then always stop the detoxing herbs and give your body a chance to relax. When the body is supported in the right way it will want to flush toxins, since the body prefers not to hang on to them. However, this flushing can be disturbing and make you feel yucky! Go slow but be diligent.

Be aware that you will not ever be completely toxic free, it just isn’t possible. Our bodies hold and use many kinds of virus, bacteria, fungi, parasites and metals for various jobs and reasons. The important thing is to help your body eliminate the unwanted and unnecessary toxins that we have allowed to build up in our bodies. You will know when you have eliminated enough, because your energy will eventually improve and possibly dramatically! Your day to day aches and stiffness will disappear, your digestion will be more efficient with no bloating or gas and you will have either lost or gained weight according to what your body needed.

Happy second week of detoxing!

To Detox, or Not To Detox?

To detox, or not to detox, that is the question!

This seems like a simple question, and to some it may be, but for myself and my clients, it is a loaded question.

Doing a proper detoxification of our physical body requires a lot of self knowledge and understanding about how the physical digestive body really functions. Our digestive system is one of the largest organization in our physical body and requires an incredible amount of effort to maintain. Yet, it is often the one we ignore the most.

We quite literally take our digestion for granted. Unless there is an obvious pain or problem, we tend to ignore our whole digestive system. When there is a problem, we only focus on that one little area, instead of recognizing how interconnected it is.

Digestion is about the proper intake of the external. We choose, breakdown/digest, absorb, assimilate utilize and excrete all in one seamless, unconscious fashion. How well though, are we choosing, absorbing and assimilating?

The vast majority of people in today’s world are deficient in one or more of these areas by the time they hit twenty years of age. This is mainly due to improper food choices and toxic overload. If you are one of the many who had your appendix removed in your youth, then that is a good indicator that your diet early on was already improper and toxic. The appendix’s job is to capture and filter toxins from our  digestive system so that we do not become overloaded. Without an appendix the is now one less filter in your system.

As one organ becomes overloaded, then another one needs to take on more work, which will eventually lead to its exhaustion, and so on. As you can well imagine, this is how chronic long term problems begin and are maintained because we can not survive properly without our digestive system functioning optimally!

It always amazes me how many people have their gallbladders removed by the time they are thirty. When there is a far more effective way to keep all our organs intact and functioning at their optimum. Detoxification is the key.

As a kid, I was severally hypoglycemic and had a lot of relatives die from complications of diabetes. I was tested quite often. My health had worsened by the time I was a teenager, and a decision was made to look for alternatives to my health issues. I began to work with a naturopath, who recommended serious changes in our food choices. A lot of digestive support ensued, like enzymes, minerals, nutrient rich supplements, colonics and strict detoxification programs.

It was no easy task to completely change the way I prepared and consumed food, but the result’s where fantastic. My energy and level of physical health skyrocketed. Detoxing annually became the norm, along with making highly self-educated food choices. Many years later, when I became a Wholistic Physician, this question took on a whole new light. When is the right time to detox, what type of detox, how long, etc.

Detox programs seemed to be cropping up everywhere and people where more willing to try them. However, one of the problems I was discovering was that if improperly done, done at the wrong time or for the wrong reasons was leading people to develop more problems.

So how do you know if a detoxification program is right for you?

Well, I believe everyone should work their way up to a full detox, gently. Whether you are an old hat at it or not. Starting in a simplistic fashion will ensure that your body can eliminate the toxins properly.

The only time you should NOT do a detoxification program is if you are severely suffering from an acute illness or have serious long term health problems. In these cases, it is best to first find a more wholistic approach to getting your symptoms under control and your life force more supported!

This week is Step 1. of a successful detox program.

Beginning this week, reduce your intake of all processed foods, sugar of any sort (even most fruit) and dairy products. Eat more fresh and raw or lightly cooked vegetables, light meats, whole grains like brown rice, lentils, beans, nuts and seeds.

Each morning begin your day with an 8 oz glass of purified, warm water infused with the juice of a half a lemon.

Be sure to take at least one probiotic capsule with a minimum of 50 billion, to ensure your bowels are balanced and working at their optimum.

These steps may look simple, but trust me they are not. Just try to do your best and your body will thank you for it!

Next week we will move on to Step 2, of a successful detox program.

Be sure to check out this weeks video that goes along with this theme.

Unconditional Love

There is nothing more significant in life than unconditional love! Unconditional love is free of any expectations. It is love in its purist form.

Unconditional love from our parents is the most significant factor in our own ability to love ourselves fully! It would be a beautiful thing, if every single person was raised with and taught, unconditional love and self-ownership.

When we love ourselves unconditionally, we know and honor ourselves fully. We know how to say YES or NO to others, depending on what is correct for ourselves first and foremost. We know how to eat according to what is right for our own unique self. We know when to stretch ourselves to achieve our hearts desire when our energy is high and when to rest and allow ourselves to heal and rejuvenate when our energy is low. Our health at a psychological, emotional and physical level is balanced because we know and love ourselves fully. Self-awareness, Self-worth, and Self-knowledge are complete.

True unconditional love can heal all wounds on every level of our existence!

When we love ourselves unconditionally we give back to the world unconditionally without sacrificing our own unique SELF! To Love ourselves fully, means that we honor our own true self. In other words, we have a true sense of Self-Worth.

I have worked for a long time resolving my own armored layers of diseased states of mind. I have come to fully appreciate unconditional love, not only for myself but for another. I never fully understood what it meant to give or receive love until I had freed myself of a lot of unhealthy beliefs I had acquired.

The book, ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ was my favorite book growing up. I never understood why until recently. Every great work of art, whether a painting, movie or book has the ability to resonate with our soul and spirit. When we resonate with a particular piece, it is because we relate to it emotionally and psychologically due to our own inner state. It brings certain thoughts and feelings to the surface of our consciousness so we can understand ourselves better.

As a Health Care Provider, nothing is more disheartening than to experience how so many individuals have no sense of self-worth or self-love. We live in a society of mainly material existence. We are only loved conditionally. As long as we act in a certain way, according to the mythical tenants laid out by some religion or belief system, than we can be loved. What a load of Crock!

Unconditional love is universal and always there for everyone to accept at any time, no questions asked! The key is in the choosing and accepting.

My wish is for everyone to learn to love themselves unconditionally. It can be a difficult thing to accept, especially if you have been taught from the day you where born that you do not deserve true self love.

So what I propose to those who feel they would like to be able to accept unconditional self love, is to take one small step each day towards it.

Every single day, wake up, go to your personal mirror, look at yourself in all sincerity and declare – “I love myself unconditionally!” I guarantee that for many it will be hard and will feel awkward and untrue at first. But for the sake of your own personal health, be willing to persevere.

The first time I did this exercise, I thought I was going to actually throw up, I felt so horrible saying it, like I was doing something so wrong. Which is crazy I know, but that is what I felt. Eventually that feeling gave way, and I became sad, and wanted to cry every time I said it, because I knew I didn’t believe it. I actually felt like I didn’t deserve it. Thankfully I persevered, and over time I began to accept and believe that I did deserve to love myself, because heck who else could or should love me so much!

Changing beliefs is one of the hardest things to do on your own. Finding help and guidance is also an important key. There are loads of people who are dedicating their lives, like myself, to helping as many people as we can, to reach this ultimate goal.

Some amazing Homeopathic/Tonic remedies that can also help to establish self worth are;

Aurum metallicum; For the individual who takes life way to seriously, only to discover that no matter how hard they try, they cannot make any one else happy. which cause the individual to become depressed with their life. The remedy will help them to strengthen their sense of self, thus, helping to enlighten them to the importance of themselves.

Anacardium; For those individuals who feel the need to prove themselves due to their inner feeling of inferiority and low self-esteem. In later stages these individuals find life completely overwhelming and are unable to make any true life decisions.

Lycopodium; For the individual who needs to belittle others in order to make themselves feel better. The classic bully or the victim of bullying if raised in an extreme peace keeping home! Problems with low confidence and self-esteem, which leads them to withdraw from life to cope.

Baryta carbonica: These individuals are shy, need constant reassurance and are generally delayed in development due to their lack of self-confidence. There is a great deal of inferiority which also leads to great fear and anxiety, leading even further in to their shyness.

As always when working with homeopathic/tonic remedies for mental, emotional issues, it is best to start with either a 200 ch or 1M then work up to higher potencies slowly as you feel ready to dig deeper at this issue. As long as a remedy appears to be working, stay with the same potency until it feels like the state is creeping up on you again, then go one step higher, or deeper. If the remedy does not seem to be helping at all then find another one that you feel suits you.  Remember, homeopathic remedies used from a 12 ch up cannot create any new issue like conventional medicine. If you feel an aggravation it is due to the remedy actually shifting your inner state that you may not be ready to let go of yet, so simply stop the remedy for a while and let your soul rest!

Finding your own self-worth and unconditional love of self can be a scary and difficult journey, but one well worth taking. Be patient with yourself during the ups and downs of self discovery. Rome was not built in a day!

Hopefully this blog has given you some things to think about, regarding your own journey of self healing. If so, please let me know. : )
